A new Call of Duty costs $69.99 at launch for the standard edition and $99.99 for the Vault Edition, while Warzone, Warzone Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile are free to play. As of October 2026, Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass include the newest premium release on day one. Below we list every current price point, rank the ways to buy in, and explain what the extra money actually buys.

How we ranked the ways to buy in
We ordered the list below by total cost for someone who wants to play the current premium Call of Duty, with a few conditions. Each option had to be available in October 2026 on at least one major platform. We counted the price of the game itself, plus any subscription you need to run it, over a twelve-month window. We ignored cosmetics, since nobody needs them to fight, and we ignored temporary sales, since they change weekly.
We did not rank the games by quality. This is a price reference, so the ranking tells you what each route costs and who it suits, nothing more.
1. Play free: Warzone, Warzone Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile ($0)

The cheapest Call of Duty price is zero. Warzone has been free on console and PC since March 2020, and it is the same engine, movement and weapon pool as the current premium game. Each year the premium release and Warzone share a season, a battle pass and a progression system, so the free player sees the same content calendar as the paying one. The difference is access to the campaign, the dedicated multiplayer modes and Zombies.
On phones, Call of Duty: Mobile has run as a free title since October 2019 with its own seasons, maps drawn from the older games and a separate account economy. Warzone Mobile arrived in March 2024 and links to the same account and battle pass as console Warzone.
The real cost of the free route is storage. Warzone on PC comfortably exceeds 100 GB with the current premium game’s shared files, and the install grows with every season. That is roughly three to four times what we measured for fortnite pc storage requirements, so an SSD with headroom matters more than a wallet here.
2. Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass (from $16.49 per month)
Since Black Ops 6 in October 2024, every new mainline Call of Duty has been on Game Pass on day one. Modern Warfare III joined the catalogue in July 2024, and Black Ops 7 launched into the service on 14 November 2025. Microsoft reshuffled the tiers in October 2025: Game Pass Ultimate moved to $29.99 per month, PC Game Pass to $16.49, and the console-only Premium tier at $14.99 does not include new Call of Duty releases on launch day.
Over a year, PC Game Pass costs about $197.88 and Ultimate about $359.88. Measured against one $69.99 game, that looks expensive. Measured against the people who buy both the current and previous entry, play on Xbox and want online multiplayer, the maths tightens. Ultimate includes the online component that a PlayStation player would pay for separately through PlayStation Plus.
The catch is ownership. Cancel and the game leaves with you, though your progression, unlocks and purchased CoD Points stay on your Activision account if you later buy the game outright.
How to play on Game Pass
- Subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate (console or PC) or PC Game Pass.
- Open the Game Pass library and search for the Call of Duty entry.
- Install, then sign in with or create an Activision account on first launch.
- Pick only the content packs you need; the campaign, multiplayer and Zombies install separately.
3. The previous year’s standard edition on sale ($20 to $40)

Call of Duty games hold their list price longer than most publishers’ titles, but the previous year’s entry does drop. Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III have both been cut to between $20 and $40 during PlayStation, Xbox and Steam sales since their replacements launched. Black Ops 6 followed the same path after Black Ops 7 arrived.
This is the best route for someone who wants a full campaign and a large multiplayer map pool without paying launch price. The trade-off is that the live content pipeline moves on. New seasons, operators and weapons go into the current game and Warzone, and the older entry’s playlists thin out over time, especially on PC where the player count splits across more titles.
4. The current standard edition at list price ($69.99)
The $69.99 standard edition is the default Call of Duty price for anyone who wants the newest game on launch day and plans to keep it. Since Modern Warfare II in 2022 this price has applied to every platform, with no cheaper last-gen SKU. On PS4 and Xbox One you pay the same $69.99 as on PS5 and Series X, and the purchase covers both generations within a console family.
What the standard edition includes, as of Black Ops 7:
- The full campaign.
- Multiplayer with the launch map set and all free seasonal updates.
- Zombies on the Black Ops years; the Modern Warfare entries vary by year.
- Access to Warzone, which you had anyway.
- Preorder bonuses such as early campaign access or an operator pack, which differ each year.
Online play on PlayStation still needs PlayStation Plus Essential at $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year, and on Xbox it needs Game Pass Core or higher. PC players on Battle.net or Steam pay nothing extra for online.
5. The Vault Edition ($99.99)

The Vault Edition has been the top tier since 2022 and costs $99.99 across console and PC. The $30 premium over standard typically buys:
- The season one battle pass, which would cost 1,100 CoD Points (about $9.99).
- BlackCell for season one, worth $29.99 if bought alone.
- A themed operator pack with four or more operators and weapon blueprints.
- An extra battle pass token for a later season in some years.
- Occasional campaign early access, usually around a week before launch.
Add the battle pass and BlackCell together and the bundle covers its own premium for anyone who was going to buy both. For a player who ignores cosmetics and never touches the battle pass, the standard edition is the right price.
6. Legacy games on Steam and consoles ($19.99 to $59.99)
The old Call of Duty collection on Steam is famous for never going cheap at list. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, World at War and Modern Warfare 2 (2009) sit at $19.99. Black Ops II, Black Ops III, Infinite Warfare and WWII still list at $59.99 in our October 2026 check, more than a decade after some of them shipped. Sales on these titles run deep, with 50 to 75 percent off during the big Steam events.
On consoles the picture depends on backwards compatibility. Xbox Series consoles run the Xbox 360 and Xbox One entries from the store or disc, while PS5 covers the PS4 era only. Black Ops III remains the most played of the legacy group thanks to its Zombies mode and custom content on PC.
| Legacy title (PC list price) | Year | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare | 2007 | $19.99 |
| Call of Duty: World at War | 2008 | $19.99 |
| Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 | 2009 | $19.99 |
| Call of Duty: Black Ops | 2010 | $39.99 |
| Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 | 2011 | $39.99 |
| Call of Duty: Black Ops II | 2012 | $59.99 |
| Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare | 2014 | $39.99 |
| Call of Duty: Black Ops III | 2015 | $59.99 |
| Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare | 2016 | $59.99 |
| Call of Duty: WWII | 2017 | $59.99 |
Prices as listed on Steam, October 2026, without sales applied.
Our top pick by budget
For most people the answer is the current standard edition at $69.99, bought at launch if you play multiplayer heavily, or six to nine months later at a discount if you mainly want the campaign. It is the only option that gives you the full game permanently without a monthly fee.
If you already pay for Game Pass Ultimate or PC Game Pass, do not buy the game. It is in the library on day one and your Activision account keeps every unlock if you move to a purchased copy later. If you only want the battle royale, install Warzone and keep your money.
Good to know
Buy the standard edition and add the battle pass with the 1,100 CoD Points it refunds each season. One $9.99 purchase can fund every subsequent pass if you finish them, which makes the Vault Edition’s included pass worth less than it looks.
What drives the Call of Duty price up after purchase
The sticker price is the start. The recurring costs sit in the seasonal economy, and they are the same on console and PC.
CoD Points
CoD Points are the shared currency for the premium game, Warzone and Warzone Mobile. The standard bundles are:
| Bundle | Price (USD) |
|---|---|
| 500 CP | $4.99 |
| 1,100 CP | $9.99 |
| 2,400 CP | $19.99 |
| 5,000 CP | $39.99 |
| 9,500 CP | $74.99 |
| 13,000 CP | $99.99 |
Call of Duty: Mobile uses its own CP balance and its own bundles, and the two do not transfer.
Battle pass and BlackCell
Each season runs roughly eight to ten weeks. The standard battle pass costs 1,100 CP and returns 1,400 CP across its tiers if you complete it, which is where the self-funding loop comes from. BlackCell is the $29.99 real-money tier that bundles the pass, 20 tier skips, 1,100 CP and exclusive operator variants. Over a six-season year, buying BlackCell every time runs to $179.94, which is more than the Vault Edition and the standard game combined.
Store bundles
Operator and weapon bundles in the in-game store generally cost 1,200 to 2,400 CP, so $9.99 to $19.99 each. Crossover packs tied to films or other franchises sit at the top of that range. None of it affects weapon balance; a blueprint changes the look of a gun, not its stats.
Regional pricing
Activision prices the recent premium games in local currency rather than converting from dollars, and the result is usually a little above the US figure once tax is included. For the standard edition of the last three releases we recorded these list prices at launch:
| Region | Standard | Vault |
|---|---|---|
| United States | $69.99 | $99.99 |
| United Kingdom | £69.99 | £99.99 |
| Eurozone | €79.99 | €109.99 |
| Canada | CA$89.99 | CA$129.99 |
| Australia | AU$109.95 | AU$159.95 |
| Japan | ¥9,900 | Varies by store |
Storefronts for Argentina, Turkey and other historically cheap regions moved to US-dollar pricing on Steam in 2022 and 2023, which closed the old regional loophole for Call of Duty. Buying a key for a region you do not live in risks the Battle.net or Steam account, so we do not recommend it.
Platform notes that change the effective price
PlayStation
PS5 and PS4 share one purchase. Online multiplayer requires PlayStation Plus. Sony’s deal with Microsoft, signed in 2023, keeps Call of Duty on PlayStation for ten years at parity with Xbox, so the price and release date match.
Xbox
Series X/S and Xbox One share one purchase. Game Pass Ultimate is the cheapest entry on launch day if you already subscribe, and Game Pass Core covers online play for anyone buying the game outright.
PC
Steam and Battle.net list the same price and update at the same time. The Call of Duty HQ launcher on PC installs the current and previous premium games alongside Warzone from one app, which is why the download can pass 200 GB with every mode selected. Online play costs nothing extra.
Nintendo Switch
Microsoft committed in 2023 to bring Call of Duty to Nintendo platforms during the ten-year agreement. As of October 2026 no mainline entry has a confirmed Switch or Switch 2 price, so we list it as not confirmed.
Early access and preorder pricing
Preordering does not change the Call of Duty price, but it changes when you can start. Since Modern Warfare II, the campaign has opened roughly a week before the full launch for anyone who preordered digitally, and the open beta weekends in September or October give a free look at multiplayer before any money changes hands. Betas are open to everyone on at least one weekend, with preorder customers getting the earlier weekend.
Physical editions have shrunk. Recent entries ship on a disc that needs a large download to run, and the Vault Edition has been digital-only since Modern Warfare III. If you want a box on a shelf, the standard disc at $69.99 is the only remaining option.
Price history of the series at launch
The first Call of Duty launched on PC in 2003 at a standard PC price of around $49.99. The $59.99 launch price was established with Call of Duty 2 on Xbox 360 in late 2005 and held through Vanguard in 2021, with special editions layered on top. Modern Warfare II in 2022 moved the standard edition to $69.99, matching the wider industry shift for current-generation releases. Black Ops 7 held at $69.99 in November 2025 despite speculation during 2025 that Microsoft would move its first-party titles to $79.99.
| Era | Standard launch price | Premium tier |
|---|---|---|
| 2005 to 2013 | $59.99 | Hardened and Prestige editions, $79.99 to $149.99 |
| 2014 to 2019 | $59.99 | Digital Deluxe with season pass, $99.99 |
| 2020 to 2021 | $59.99 | Cross-Gen Bundle $69.99, Ultimate $89.99 |
| 2022 onward | $69.99 | Vault Edition $99.99 |
The season pass, which once added $49.99 for a year of map packs, was dropped with Modern Warfare 2019. Every map since then has been free, with the battle pass and store taking over as the recurring revenue.
